Summer Holidays Week 7

Summer Holidays Week 7Monday 29th August 2016

Well so much for our ‘stay at home and chill Mondays’ …. that didn’t happen today … despite is being a Bank Holiday too.

Instead we spent it up at our local hospital in the eye A&E department. Discovering last night C had a squint that we had never noticed before we phoned up our local supersavers to explain the situation and to see if they could give him an eye test and they advised us to go to the hospital to have them checked. Due to it being a Bank Holiday he had a few very basic tests and we were told to return tomorrow for more.

Tuesday 30th August 2016

Back to the hospital today for more eye tests for C ….. we still have to have a further appointment because although we found out today he will require glasses we have to go back again so they can determine the strength of his lenses.

Wednesday 31st August 2016

We didn’t do anything today – we didn’t make any plans and I guess after the past few days being at the hospital for a few hours each time it wasn’t going to hurt to not go anywhere.

Thursday 1st September 2016.

September already?!? The weather wasn’t brilliant today and I felt a bit sad that this being the last week of the summer holidays was a bit of a let down. We didn’t have any nice days out planned this week and I felt we should be making the most of the last week off the summer holidays. We had done so much over the past 7 weeks and then this last week seemed a bit crappy, so I met my sister in soft play – C had a great time running off some steam and it got us out of the house.

Friday 2nd September 2016

I’d like to say we went somewhere today but we didn’t. I think to be honest as much as this week has felt like a bit of a let down it’s been ok in the sense that we have spent most of the summer holidays out and about doing things. We’ve had a great 7 weeks and we really did make the most of it.

L is back to school on Monday and C is back to pre-school on Wednesday and the following week his music class so the usual routine shall begin again.

Summer 2016 … you were pretty awesome!

Summer Holidays Week 6

Monday 22nd August 2016

If you have read my pervious summer holidays posts you’ll know Mondays tend to be a bit of a home day for us during the holidays. So we just pottered about doing household chores and C played with his toys.

Tuesday 23rd August 2016

C & I went to Adventure Wonderland today with a couple of people from my work and their kids. The weather was absolutely glourious and we had such a great day.

Summer Holidays Week 6

Wednesday 24th August 2016

We met a friend and my sister at Moors Valley Country Park. We’ve not been there yet this summer so it was nice to do something different. The weather was again really hot and sunny but because you’re in the forest for half of it the trees kept us in the shade which was really handy. We walked loads today though and my poor feet were feeling it especially after being out all day yesterday too … and I had to go to work tonight too!!! Boy I ached. The highlight of the day has to be the Poo Disaster!

Summer Holidays Week 6

Thursday 25th August 2016

C & I met a friend at the park first thing. We sat and had a catch up whilst the kids played. We must have been there a good few hours in the end.

The best bit about today’s date though marked the day my parents finally moved back home from Ireland. Although they left and started their journey yesterday they weren’t due to arrive until today. So it’s all finally over! We all live back here where we belong. It’s SO nice having them back close again. They are staying with us for 3/4 nights until they get their place sorted and beds unpacked. So I spent the afternoon sorting out beds and sleeping arrangements and eagerly awaited their arrival.

Friday 26th August 2016

We we meant to be going over to toddler group again this morning but due to my parents being here we didn’t go .. instead we let them go ahead to their new place to be there for when the lorries arrived then later on that day we headed over to see them. So much nicer having a 30 minute drive to see them rather than a 12 hour one Haha.

Summer Holidays Week 5

Monday 15th August

Today was the day L’s friend was flying back to Ireland. I had to face the journey to the airport on my own … on motorways! Something I wouldn’t have done years ago. I was a little nervous all morning but I put my big girl pants on and realised this child needed to get to the airport for her flight. I had no choice but to do it … and I DID. Big milestone for me.
I may also be a bit of a geek but I adore airports – I love all things to do with them and planes. I don’t know why, I always have done.

It was a baking hot day so on the way home I stopped off at a motorway services and treated the kids and I to a nice cold drink from McDonalds. OMG The queues were awful and everyone smelt really hot and sweating so stood amongst them all for half an hour just for three drinks was not fun at all Haha.

Summer Holidays Week 5

Tuesday 16th August 2016

Another gorgeous sunny day so we headed to Highcliffe Castle with my sister & nephew. L even come with us today too. C loves taking a ball there and having a run about on the lawn – he usually finds someone to play with whilst he’s there. It’s such a beautiful setting and only just down the road from us. Plus they sell cakes and ice-cream! What more could you ask for 😉Summer Holidays Week 5Summer Holidays Week 5

Wednesday 17th August 2016

I was meant to be meeting a friend and her girls but something come up and she had to cancel. So instead of wasting the day and more good weather we headed to Hengistbury Head with C’s bike. There’s a really lovely 50 minute walk you can do which eventually take you to a little beach. We usually do the walk/cycle there and then get the land train back again.

It’s MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

We had a family day out to Paultons Park – we’re so fortunate to live so close and we go at least once a year (if not more). The weather was boiling hot all day but we had the most amazing time. C is a little daredevil and loved all the big rollercoasters. It was the first time we had seen their new section “The Lost Kingdom” and I have to say we were all so impressed. They really have done such a great job of the theming and they have lots of great new rides too. I took a ton of photos that day but here are just a few.

We then went out for dinner on the way home … who wants to cook on their Birthday!

Friday 19th August 2016

The kids and I met with my Sister and Nephew today at Sprinkles Gelato ….. Oh my word they do the best waffles and pancakes. They do every flavour ice-cream known to man. Literally they do everything. It was a very naughty but nice lunch date. The weather was so different to yesterday too – it rained all day. So pleased it didn’t do that the day we were at Paultons Park.

Summer Holidays Week 4

Monday 8th August 2016

L’s best friend flew over from Ireland to stay with us for 10 days on Saturday and the weather was forecast to be totally amazing this week so I got planning as many activities as I could.

As usual my Mondays are a house/blog catch up day. But I did have to pop to a doctors appointment first thing. There’s a park right opposite so I took C there once we were finished in the doctors. We spent the afternoon at home though.

L & her friend went out and about and cycled into our local town to have a look around.

Tuesday 9th August 2016

Today we went to a local dry ski slope centre. I met up with a friend and my sister and obviously we had L and her friend too. I managed to find a deal online that morning whereby I paid for one half an hour session and got the second half price. We’ve been here before and I know that half an hour is more than enough time. By the time their session is over they’re always bright red in the face and exhausted especially with having to drag the Ringos back up the slope.

After dinner we made a spur of the moment decision seeing as the weather was still hot and sunny to take the kids crab fishing. We’re lucky enough to have somwhere to go which is only a 5 minute drive away and we have all the equipment in the garage – all we needed to do was buy some bait.

We all had such a good time. Last year when we went I have a feeling C was a little too young to take part but this year he loved catching the crabs in his net from the crab lines when one of us had one to pull up. I don’t think L’s friend had any idea what it was going to be like but she throughly enjoyed herself. We managed to catch loads of crabs but of course we popped them back in safely again before we headed home.

Wednesday 10th August 2016

Today I took the girls over to Poole to have a few hours fun in Splashdown – it’s a fun packed waterpark with slides inside and out. They have 13 rides and 3 splash zones for the under 5’s. I could have taken C into the splash zones but he’s such a daredevil he would have wanted to have gone on the bigger rides and when you tell him he’s not big enough his reply is “But I am a big boy now Mummy” Bless him. So I met my sister (she only lives up the road from there) and instead we took him into a soft-play centre next door. He had fun in there, we had chat and a coffee and the girls had a blast. They were in there for 3 hours in the end!

Thursday 11th August 2016

We woke to more sunshine today so I took all three kids to Hoburne so they could go in the outdoor pool. I didn’t swim today but I enjoyed sitting in the sun on a sun lounger watching the three of them have fun. I think we ended up having what was our third BBQ of the night this week too! Gotta love the summer.

Friday 12th August 2016

L had arranged to meet some friends down the beach today so I left them too it and although C & I were too late getting over to toddler group we headed over to my sisters instead for some lunch and a walk round the heath with her dog. C spotted a few horses and was happily enough just getting out in the fresh air.

Summer Holidays Week 4

Phew! Another busy week and a busy one planned for next week too.

Summer Holidays Week 3

Week 3 – almost half way through the holidays already. Check out what we got up to in week 2.

Monday 1st August 2016

As usual Mondays is our only ‘home’ days during the week whilst we’re on the summer holidays. It gives me a chance to catch up on things at home. My Sister, Brother in Law & Baby H did pop over and they bought an epic lunch with them! It was what lunches should be all about … lots of salad, pots of pasta, cold chicken & french stick!

Tuesday 2nd August 2016

My sister and I took all three kids swimming today .. L even joined us! We went to one of the local pools where we’re members and went to the indoor pool, due to the weather not being brilliant. It was a bit too cold for the outside one.

Afterwards I needed to pop to Sainsburys to collect some wrapping paper for a certain someones Birthday tomorrow.

Wednesday 3rd August 2016

Mr S’s Birthday!!!!! We all got up and rushed about like mad people trying to get out of the house for a reasonable time because today we headed to Beaulieu National Motor Museum. The park opened at 10am and we arrived shortly after 11. I hadn’t been to Beaulieu since I was a child in primary school. I think we went there once for a school trip. I could only literally remember one thing about it .. and funnily enough it was still there too.

Everyone was there to spend the day with us … my parents & sister & family too. I really didn’t know what to expect and how enjoyable it would have been for L who’s 13 & C who’s almost 4. But I have to say there really was something there for all of us to enjoy and we had a great day. I’ve done a full post on our day at Beaulieu if you wanted to take a look, there’s a lot more photos there too.

Thursday 4th August 2016

As I said last week C has a music class he attend term-time on a Monday but during the summer holidays his teacher puts on a 3 week summer course. We missed last weeks due to him being tired and excited his grandparents were here, but today we decided to pop along.

If i’m honest with you we shouldn’t have bothered. It takes place in a different location to his usual class and the children are a mix of all her classes so there was no-one recognisable there. C just didn’t want to take part in any of it and just sat there for the hour refusing to do a single thing. Talk about a waste of time and money! We won’t be returning for the last class next week. We’ll just wait until his usual classes resume in September.

Friday 5th August 2016

My sister attends a toddler group near her on a Friday and during the 4 Fridays in August they are running a summer toddler group for children of all ages. I thought this was a fab idea. When both of mine were little and we attended toddler groups I always hated it when it was the school holidays because I had on where to take my baby. I’m also quite sad now toddler groups seem to be something of the past for us …. they’ve been a big part of being a stay at home mum whilst my two were little. We would attend one most weeks if not two. I met some lovely friends through toddler group and the only reason we don’t go to any now is because C & I do so much during the week we just don’t have time to fit them in which is a shame.
So when this come up during the holidays we jumped at the chance to go along. It was a really lovely set up because when we arrived they were offering breakfast, we had a choice of toast, cereal or a bacon or sausage sandwich! Plus tea or coffee. All of that was included in the entry fee of just £1.50 for the two of us. Total bargain.

C had a great time – they had tables set up with play-doh, arts and crafts and puzzles and the organisers had a range of games planned to get the kids running off some steam. It all finished with a story and a few songs. It was great for me because I was able to sit and play play-doh with C and have a catch up with a friend who also went along.

Afterwards we headed back to my sisters for some lunch and then had a potter around Mothercare to have a test out of a few car-seats for C .. he’s about ready to move up to the next stage now so i’m on the lookout for his next one. It’s really hard trying to make a decision I think on something you are trusting to keep your child safe whilst on the roads.

How did you week 3 of the holidays go?

Summer Holidays Week 2

Are you all enjoying the Summer holidays? This is what we got up to on our first week.

Monday 25th July 2016

Monday seems to be our ‘day at home’ during the Summer … C usually term time goes to a music class on a Monday so it’s actually making a nice change to have a ‘down day’ after the weekend. He’s happy to just play with his toys whilst I catch up on housework/washing/blogging.

Tuesday 26th July 2016

C & I were invited to a blogging event on Bournemouth beach in the afternoon. We headed down and joined some other bloggers for some fun and games on the beach in aid of keeping children safe on the Bournemouth beaches which is sponsored by Liverpool Victoria. We were provided a lovely lunch and they had an afternoon of games planned for the children. The weather wasn’t brilliant and a few times I thought it might have rained, but it didn’t. It held off and we had fun.

Summer Holidays - Week 2

Summer Holidays - Week 2

Wednesday 27th July 2016

We were planning on having a day out to a local Country park today but the weather forecast wasn’t brilliant so we opted to meet friends in soft play instead. As it turned out there was no rain and we could have carried on with our original plans. Thankfully soft play wasn’t too busy which was probably due to the weather being alright. It gave C time to run off some stream with his friends and I was able to catch up with mine.

The best thing about today though was my parents arriving from Ireland for a 10 day stay! They didn’t arrive until after 8 that night so it gave me a chance to come home from soft play and go on a cleaning mission & sort out sleeping arrangements.

It was SO good to see them, the children were bouncing off the walls when they got here (especially C) so a late night was had by all that night.

Thursday 28th July 2016

I was meant to be taking C to a summer music class today but due to his late night the previous night and the fact his beloved grandparents were here he wasn’t in the least bit interested in going, so we stayed home and my Sister & nephew popped over to see everyone. We didn’t do much that afternoon but just spent some family time together all catching up.

Friday 29th July 2016

Literally not much happened today at all. in fact C stayed in his PJ’s all day! My sister headed over again with my nephew & although my parents were off out doing their own thing we just happily had a down day at home with some extra company. Sometimes days like that are just needed.

You might see that i’ve not mentioned much about L this week but seeing as it was her first proper week off she was off out doing her own thing with her friends most of the week.

Our Weekend 13th & 14th August 2016

Wow what a fab weekend! It’s been full on as usual but we’ve had a brilliant one. The weather has been a.m.a.z.i.n.g too.

Saturday 13th August 2016

We had a child free day!!!!! That hasn’t happened in about two years. C went to spend the day with my sister & nephew & L has her friend over from Ireland to stay with us so we all drove to West Quay in Southampton – the girls went off on their own for a few hours and we did the same!! It was so lovely to be able to have lunch just the two if us and have a nice stroll round the shops and IKEA.

West Quay have dedicated the entire third floor to food places & restaurants so we had an abundance to choose from. We decided to try something different, go somewhere we’ve never eaten before … Wagamama. I looked at the menu before we went in and I have to admit I was a bit dubious, I wasn’t sure I was going to find something I would actually like. But we decided to throw caution to the wind and be different. We were really chuffed we did because it was absolutely gorgeous, both of us chose something different so we could have a taste of each others and I have to say we loved both. It’s definitely somewhere we would like to visit again and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable too.

After lunch we had a (long ) wander round IKEA and walked back to West Quay to exchange a pair of shoes before meeting up with the girls again.

It really was so nice to have some couple time. I adore spending time as a family but I do also think it’s important to have time just the two of you every now and again.

Sunday 14th August 2016

We woke up to sunny bless skies again Woohoo! So it was a definite day for the beach.

Our Weekend

We popped out first thing for some picnic supplies and also had a quick wander around a local car-boot sale (which to be honest was a bit of a waste of time).

Once home we packed up the car with the picnic, body boards, buckets and spades … and of course the sun-cream and off we went. We didn’t get there until about half past two which was a pretty good time – the sun was still hot but the beach was pretty quiet, presumably people headed down there earlier in the day.

We spent a good 3 or so hours there and the whole time the girls were in the sea and C was happily paddling and playing on the sand with his diggers.

I had a bit of time to sit and soak up the sun whilst reading a few pages in my book.

Summer Holidays Week 1

I thought it might be nice to do a post at the end of each week to document what we have got up to over the summer holidays. We’re booking up our diary nicely with lots of fun activities so I just hope the weather is nice, dry and sunny.

Monday 18th July 2016.

The first day and after a super busy weekend we had a really lovely day at home. The weather was absolutely beautiful and sunny so C & I spent the day on the garden. He spent 6 hours in and out of his paddling pool and we both just really enjoyed pottering around. I put his slide into his pool and he loved sliding down into the water. He had so much fun. L was still at school.

Tuesday 19th July 2016.

We headed to a local splash park with my Sister & Nephew. Again the weather was glorious so we packed up a picnic off we went. We set up a sun tent for my nephew & C run of some energy in the play park and then the splash park. It’s great we have it so local and all for free. We didn’t go home until we had an ice-cream and fed the ducks though 😉

Goodbye June ….

Hello July!

Another month has gone by and we have less months till Christmas than we’ve already had since last Christmas if that makes sense! Time is flying by.

Lets hope July actually brings some us some nice sunny weather. We’ve had the odd nice day during the past month but nothing long term. I’ve remembered sunny days in the past to last for weeks .. not just a day before the rain comes again. It’s actually been more like Autumn recently with the rain and grey clouds we’ve experienced. We’ve already had the longest day too which means each day will get darker in the evenings little by little. So come on Summer …. we’re waiting for you.

June for us has seen a nice surprise visit from my step-dad for the night, he totally took us by surprise by turning up at our doorstep one evening, and we spent the next day together before he had to head back home again. We hadn’t seen him in 6 months so it was really lovely to spend some quality time with him.

We’ve had some fun days out – most recently we visited Adventure Wonderland for the day which was really enjoyable, and we’ve had some fun packed weekends too – we’ve taken C to the dry ski slopes, we’ve been swimming loads of times (lost count actually, we try to go most weekends and if not sometimes in the evenings), we’ve had walks down the beach, and we visited the ‘Wheels Festival” in Bournemouth at the beginning of the month

C has this month really got to grips with riding his bike. He’s outside riding up and down the patio all the time and since he’s gained confidence and strength we have started taking him out on it. If we’ve gone for a walk down the beach we’ll load the bike into the car and he’ll be as happy as anything cycling along when we get there. I can’t believe how far he’s been going actually considering he’s only got little legs!

L has been gaining more confidence this month with meeting up with friends and going into town with them on weekends which is good for her. Apart from that she’s your average teen! She spends a lot of time in her bedroom and when she doesn’t she’s not full of the conversation haha.

So June, you’ve been a busy one …. July will see both kids finish up school & pre-school for the Summer holidays and hopefully lots and lots of this:

Adventure Wonderland Bournemouth.

Tuesday 28th June 2016

On Tuesday my Sister & I took C & my little Nephew to Adventure Wonderland in Bournemouth.

Adventure Wonderland is a park themed around the classic novel “Alice In Wonderland” They have rides and attractions aimed at children up to the age of 12, a hedge maze and an indoor soft play. Characters from the novel can be seen walking around the park (we only got to see the Mad Hatter on Tuesday though).

The day started out with glorious sunshine, so we got to the park just after they opened at 10am. Luckily for us due to it being a school day the park was really quiet and it stayed like that all day too. We didn’t have to queue for the rides at all.

Adventure Wonderland Bournemouth

Due to C being over a metre tall he was able to do every ride they had apart from one. The pirate ship required you to be 1.5 metres tall. He was able to go on the rides himself if he wanted to, but it was also ok for either of us to take him on if that’s what he wanted. My nephew is only 5 months and he was even able to ride the elephants, a couple of train type rides and the cars. As I said there were virtually no queues so we were pretty much able to jump on and off rides as much as we liked.

We weren’t able to go into the maze on this occasion because you weren’t allowed to take prams/buggies in there. It wasn’t practical for us to hold all of our bags and my nephew and leave his pram outside so we could do the maze. We did however walk through their shrinking mirror hedge and had quite a chuckle at ourselves in the funny mirrors.

Adventure Wonderland BournemouthAdventure Wonderland BournemouthAdventure Wonderland Bournemouth

There was a doorway leading to a corridor which was made to make you feel like you were shrinking just like Alice in the story. Again we had to all do this separately because you couldn’t walk through with a pram.

Adventure Wonderland Bournemouth

We decided on taking a picnic with us for our lunch. The park does have a cafe/restaurant inside where the soft play is, but  there is plenty of grass areas and benches with tables for you to have your own food. We did purchase some hot drinks from there though and a portion of chips to go with what we had bought to eat.

After lunch we headed over to ‘Cuddle Corner Farm” They have a range of animals, including alpacas, pigmy goats, lambs, sheep, chickens and donkeys along with rabbits and guinea pigs. We only saw goats, donkeys and pigs though .. oh and the odd chicken roaming around the park all day too.

Without a doubt the most funniest part of the day were the sheep. They were SO friendly and one of them even posed for a selfie with me haha!

Adventure Wonderland Bournemouth

There was an area where you could have a pony rides for a small fee but that area was closed off all day for some reason. Maybe they weren’t busy enough to open it up.

We were so lucky with the weather (as you can probably see from the photos) but at around 2pm it totally changed and it was like a monsoon! The rainfall was unreal. Luckily they do have the indoor soft play because if they didn’t we would have definitely had to have called it a day and the price of the entrance would have been really costly for just half a days worth of entertainment I think personally.

I didn’t take any photos of the soft play, it was a good sized frame with some theming but it definitely could have done with a good clean and some maintenence. C still had a blast for a few hours though.

We had a great day, with lots of laughs and C had a brilliant time. He went on every ride he was able to and made the most of his day there.
