#Blogtober 2016 day 5 is all about what career I had planned as a child.
I think the first job I remember wanting to do when I was grown up was to be an air stewardess, although these days they’re called cabin crew I think.
I was lucky enough as a child to visit a fair few places and I travelled quite a bit on a plane. I would sit fascinated watching the cabin crew go about their job.
I’ve always loved airports as well, and when I was younger I used to go over to Heathrow’s roof gardens with my grandparents to watch the planes take off and land. I remember one year going over with them for the opening of the new terminal two – I was as happy as anything sat there people watching – wondering where they were going on their trip – was it for business or pleasure? To be honest i’m still the same now, when i’ve ever had to go to the airport to collect someone i’ll quite happily sit there for ages just watching everything and everyone … i’m a bit of a plane geek Haha.
I did apply to Virgin for my work experience at Heathrow when I was in year 9 at school. My grandparents lived 5 minutes away from Heathrow so I would have been able to stay with them for the two weeks. I got a lovely reply from them saying they weren’t able to offer me anything because they left opportunities like that for schools in the local area. I was living 100 miles away so it was understandable.
Would I still want to do the same job now I am an adult … no I wouldn’t. I still love airports and planes but I wouldn’t want a job as cabin crew. I think it’s a pretty lonely job, I follow someone on Instagram who is one and she flies long haul, spends a day or two alone in a hotel room sleeping off her time differences to get up and do it all again back home .. and put up with the jet lag once again. I would hate to be away from the family for days at a time too. That said I wouldn’t say no to her perks!!! She will quite often get to take her family and friends to all sorts of destinations, how cool what that be. They get to fly business class too.
What did you want to do as you were growing up? Are you doing that job now?
So #Blogtober2016 Day 4 is about sharing a secret about me!
This has been a tough one to write about to be honest. I don’t have any ‘big’ secrets … but the one thing I can think about is a tad embarrassing but here goes.
I can’t swallow tablets! Be if for pain or antibiotics. I used to be able to but, when I was around 12 I was on a school trip once and got a headache, I had some paracetamol packed away in my bag so I took two … one of them however went down sideways and got stuck in my throat – it panicked me and I couldn’t get it out for ages. I was sat on a coach too so couldn’t even do much apart from sit there.
Ever since then I’ve never been able to take them again! My throat just clams shut and doesn’t allow anything to go down – I can hardly even swallow water sometimes. I have tried SO many times over the years but I could literally be stood there for ages trying to gulp down a tablet to the point where i’ll be sick because i’ve swallowed pints of water. How stupid it that??
I have to ask the Dr for liquid antibiotics if I’ve needed them (so cringeful!) and I have to take liquid paracetamol. I’d prefer an injection over taking a tablet.
I’ve even considered some sort of therapy to help me get over this because it would be so much easier to swallow a tablet if I ever needed to take something. Is there even such a thing? Haha!
Not many people know about it, i’m too embarrassed to tell anyone and here I am announcing it on my blog for all to read! But hey ho, it’s a secret none the less and that’s what todays topic is all about.
#Blogtober2016 Day 3 …. If I won the lottery I would? ….
Winning the lottery has probably been a thought of most people at some time – you quite often hear people during a conversations say “Ahh now if I was to won the lottery ….”
To some people that dream really does come true and I can’t imagine how that must feel. But the chances are just so so slim aren’t they?
That said if I did ever win, what would I spend my winnings on.
If we’re talking about winning a small amount then I don’t know I guess we would go out one weekend and have a nice time with the kids and perhaps a meal out.
But if we’re talking winning big time then obviously I would make sure we had a home paid off – and I’m not talking a big mansion either – we’ve discussed this. We would be happy enough just getting an average sized house – 4 bedrooms perhaps instead of 3 (one for a study … not another mini!!) we would stay in the area we live in now because quite frankly it’s perfect. I wouldn’t want something too big to keep on top of housework wise, maintenance wise or something to big to feel cold in the winter. I would pay off close family members mortgages so they would no longer have to pay that for the rest of their lives. We would of course have holidays – we would without a doubt go back to Florida but then again we will holiday there wether we win the lottery or not. I’d like to think we would travel the world a bit and take the kids on different adventures experiencing lots of Countries and their cultures.
I would make sure each child has a nest egg for their future because I think kids of today are going to have it tough growing up.
But I would also like, well I say I, I mean we (Mr S and I have talked about this hypothetically as you do) we would like to ‘do some good in the world’ if that is even possible. I don’t know, for example go and re-build villages that have been ruined by freak weather or war, build schools in Countries who aren’t lucky enough to have them, donate or build hospitals in Countries not as lucky as we are with the NHS in this Country. I couldn’t just sit on millions of pounds and not make a difference to lots of lives.
So yeah that’s kind of what I would do if I won the lottery …… will that ever happen? I doubt it very much, but it’s nice to have the dreams though isn’t it?
Day Two is all about sharing an old photo of me. So here I am aged 4 & a half years old. Quite mad to think my own little boy is almost the same age as me in this photo.
This post challenge couldn’t have come at a better time because recently my parents moved into their new home and they have passed down all of my childhood photo albums they’ve had stored in their loft for all these years.
Over the past few weeks i’ve throughly enjoyed looking though them all before I safely popped them into my loft. I love the fact I have these memories to look back on and that’s why I think it’s so important to take as many photos and videos of my children so they have their own memories to look back on too.
#Blogtober2016 Day 1
I’ve decided it would be a nice idea to take part in #Blogtober2016 who is hosted by Mandi Morrison. Day 1 is all about me and who I am …..
So …… I’m Lisa, 35 (although I still feel like i’m in my twenties 😛 ) i’m married to Mr S & have been for 14 years now (we’ve been together for 17) and we have two children L who’s 13 & C who recently turned 4. We have two furries too …. Jazzy who’s a 17 year old tortoise shell cat & Charlie, an 8 year old Caviler King Charles dog.
We live on the south coast, we did live in the ROI for almost 8 years only returning home 19 months ago. We adore where we live and we have no plans to ever move again! Living near the beach has to be just one of the best things about living here.
I am a lover of Disney (I absolutely adore the place and anything to do with Disney) I love chocolate, the sunshine … erm It’s actually quite hard thinking of stuff to say about yourself.
I recently started back at work, just part-time. I had a 13 year work break to be at home with the children. I’ve been in my little job for 11 months now and I throughly enjoy it. I work 20.00 – 00.00 so it’s perfect fitting it in around everyone – I’m still able to be here during the day with the kids and by the time they’re in bed (well the teen isn’t but you know what I mean) I go out to work .. just 3 nights a week but it gives me a chance to be ‘me’, Lisa, not mummy. The girls I work with are brilliant and we get on so well and have a good old natter whilst we work – they’re all similar to me and have kids at home/school too
So yeah not sure what else to say or what else you want to know about me … so if you have any questions then fire away and i’ll be happy to answer them.
